CONCERT OF POLISH BLIND ARTISTS “FOR YOU“

Current status of the project

Within the framework of the project “Iceland and Poland against exclusion from culture” Centrum Kultury Wrocław-Zachód has prepare some subsequent April events, targeted at promoting cultural heritage of both countries through activities enriched by audio description - method facilitating direct movie, theatre play, show and exhibition projection for persons with visual impairment.

On 6th April 2014 in the auditorium room of CKWZ, the projection of the Icelandic movie “In deep” ("Djúpið"/ 2012) with audio description took place. The film was directed by Baltasar Kormákur, one of the most notable Icelandic film directors. The movie tells a story from 1984, when near the southern shore of Iceland, the raging ocean became the scenery of a dramatic test of characters and strengths of local fishermen after their keelboat had sank.

Two events will also be held in Iceland. On 23 April in CAFÉ Rosenberg in the heart of Reykjavik during the opening of the Icelandic festival List an Landamaera ( "Art without borders") took place a concert of the blind artist Katarzyna Nowak, acting as an honorable ambassador of audio description.

On 24 April in Bio Paradis cinema the projection of the Polish movie with audio description “Wałęsa. Man of hope”, directed by Andrzej Wajda added splendour to the opening of this year’s Polish Film Festival, organized by the Embassy of Poland in Reykjavik. “Wałęsa. Man of hope”, with a notable performance by Robert Więckiewicz, shows a phenomenon of transformation of a simple worker focused on his daily routine into a charismatic leader.

The admission to the events is always free of charge. Invitations are available for distribution in the programme department of CKWZ and at the box office of Bío Paradís cinema.

 

Iceland and Poland Against Exclusion from Culture

This three-year international exchange of art done on the basis of the idea of ​​audio description. The project aims to promote best practice sharing culture, people with disabilities, the promotion of the cultural heritage of both countries and to deepen the understanding between the Poles and the Icelanders.
